Deep Brain Stimulation of the Subcallosal Cingulate for Treatment-Resistant Anorexia Nervosa

- CASE REPORT
Case report of a woman with severe, treatment-resistant anorexia nervosa who underwent bilateral deep brain stimulation of the subcallosal cingulate. Over 12 months, she demonstrated modest weight gain, resumption of menses, improved mood, and reduced obsessive-compulsive food-related behaviors, with no surgical or device-related complications. This case highlights the potential role of DBS as an adjunctive therapy in refractory anorexia nervosa and underscores the importance of careful patient selection and multidisciplinary management.
